Common questions and troubleshooting tips.
How do I play?
You get a 4x4 grid of numbered tiles and a target number, which is 10. Tap two tiles that add up to 10 and they clear. The empty slots refill from the tiles still waiting, until there are none left. There are 11 pairs in a puzzle, and the footer keeps count as you clear them.
What devices does Tally run on?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. There is no Mac or Vision Pro version.
Is there more than one puzzle a day?
No. There is one puzzle per day and it is the same for everyone, worked out from the calendar date. A new one arrives at midnight on your device.
What happens when I tap a wrong pair?
Nothing bad. The two tiles shake and stay where they are. Mistakes are counted so you can see them at the end, but you never lose anything and you can't fail a puzzle. Tally is meant to be low-stress.
What is a nudge?
If you're stuck, a nudge highlights a pair that works. You get three per day. Using one doesn't end your run, but it does mean the day won't count as a perfect run.
What counts as a perfect run?
Finishing all 11 pairs with zero mistakes and zero nudges. Time doesn't matter.
How does the streak work?
Finish a day's puzzle and your streak goes up by one. Miss a single day and the streak survives, so one busy evening costs you nothing. It only resets after two days in a row without a puzzle. A forgiven day does not count towards the number itself, so three puzzles with a gap in the middle reads as a streak of three. Your best streak is kept separately, so you can always see your record.
How do I share my result?
When you finish, you can copy a short text summary that looks like this:
TALLY Day 41 11/11 pairs in 2:04 0 mistakes, no nudges
It has no spoilers in it, so you can post it before other people have played.
How do I turn the daily reminder on or off?
The reminder is off by default. Turn it on in Tally's settings and iOS will ask for permission to send notifications. It then fires once a day at 9:00. You can turn it off again in the same place, or revoke notification permission in the Settings app under Notifications → Tally.
Does Tally need an internet connection?
No. The app makes no network requests at all. The daily puzzle is worked out on your device from the date, so everything works offline.
What languages does Tally speak?
Nine: English, German, Greek, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. Tally follows your device language.
Is Tally accessible?
Yes. Tally supports VoiceOver throughout, scales with Dynamic Type, and respects Reduce Motion. It also follows your light or dark appearance setting.
How do I reset my streak and progress?
Delete and reinstall the app. Everything Tally saves lives on your device, so removing the app clears your streak, history, and settings. There is no backup anywhere else, so this can't be undone.
Where is my data stored?
On your device only, in standard iOS app storage. Tally collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere. See the privacy policy for full details.
